Ghanaian defender Sam Mensah will remain on the sidelines for three months having undergone successful surgery to fix a knee injury.

The 25-year-old went under the knife on Thursday having sustained the injury while in action for Orebro in the Swedish top flight game against Goterberg last weekend.

The ex Ostersunds defender had been playing through the pain barrier in recent weeks but had to come off in last weekend’s game as the pain intensified.

The Ghanaian was later detected to have hurt his meniscus and cartilage in his left knee, leading to the surgery.

The Right to Dream Academy graduate has now began working on his detailed rehabilitation program which he will complete in the next three months.

His injury comes as a heavy blow to Orebro who have profited from his immense qualities in the heart of their defence.

Mensah has missed just two games of the nine played by Orebro so far this season in the Swedish top flight.
