Gyan wins Footballer of the Year award

Asamoah Gyan has been named by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana as the Men’s Footballer of the Year for 2013.

Gyan beat his national teammates Kwadwo Asamoah and Sulley Ali Muntari to the prize after an excellent year that saw him lead the Back Stars to reach the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and finishing as top scorer in the qualifying.

The award was picked on his behalf by his dad.
The Al-Ain striker could not make it a double on the night after finishing behind Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah for the flagship award, Personality of the Year.
