Ghanaian defender Baba Abdul Rahman failed in his bid to help Greuther Furth secure their return to the German top flight after being held to a 1-1 draw by Hamburg in the playoff match played on Sunday.

The former Ghana U20 star was in full time action as the Cloverleaves failed to make their home advantage count having earned a hard fought goalless draw in the first leg of the playoff game against the Bundesliga club.

Hamburg who finished 16 th in the just ended campaign took a 14 th minute lead through striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga to stun the Trolli Arena.

The Dinosaur took the lead into the break leaving the home fans on the edge of their seats.

Greuther Furth however emerged the more determined side in the second period and got their deserved equalizer through Stephan Furstner to set reignite the club’s hopes of making an immediate return to the Bundesliga.

Frank Kramer’s side kept pushing for that elusive winner which almost came late on but for an incredible save by Hamburg goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny to keep his side in the German top flight – resigning Baba Rahman’s Greuther Furth to another season in Bundesliga 2.
