The Ministry of Health yesterday extended its specialised medical outreach programme to the Osu Children’s Home.
In all 300 persons, comprising 145 children and 155 staff of the institution, benefited from the medical screening.
The national specialised medical outreach project, initiated by the Ministry of Health, seeks to give the vulnerable in society access to quality health care, irrespective of their geographical location.
Five special mobile clinics with medical officers provided ear, nose, throat, dental and ophthalmology screening services to the children and staff of the home.
The home’s plea
The Head of the home, Mrs Sharon Abbey, expressed her outfit’s appreciation to the ministry and the medical team and expressed the hope that their services would be regular.
According to her, medical screening is a crucial need of the home because the children are vulnerable to illnesses and explained that the exercise would improve the health of the children and staff and also reduce their medical expenses.
Subvention not enough
According Mrs Abbey, although the home is on government subvention, the magnitude of its financial burden made the subventions insufficient. She therefore called on benevolent institutions and philanthropists to support the home with donations including money, toiletries, baby care products and food.
She was also grateful to the government, institutions and individuals who had supported them in the past and those who were continuously supporting them in various ways.
