Multiple award-winning and celebrated Ghanaian actress, Jackie Appiah, was officially unveiled as a Brazil 2014 World Cup ambassador at a ceremony at the Labadi Beach Hotel last Thursday night.
Although the actress was announced as one of the 15 ambassadors chosen by the Ministry of Youth and Sports last week, Jackie was out of the country on a project which took her to Rwanda, Malawai and Zambia.
Thus, during a send off dinner for the visiting Zambian Minister of Youth and Sports, Jackie was officially presented with her letters and duties as a World Cup Ambassador.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, paid a glowing tribute to Jackie as torchbearer of Ghanaian and African cinema across the world, describing the actress as one of the finest on the continent.
Mr Ankrah then read the letter of engagement, detailing the roles of the actress as a World Cup Ambassador to include among other things, campaigning to the corporate world and the general public for support towards Ghana’s journey to world cup glory.
This includes the campaign to raise funds to enable the supporters union of Ghana to travel to Brazil in order to support the Ghana Black Stars. She would be making calls to the public to text ‘SCORE’ to 1474 at a cost of 70 pesewas per SMS.
Jackie commented, ‘I must say I am honoured and humbled by this gesture. Thank you for choosing me. To everyone who sat down and decided that ‘Jackie should be part of this’, I am honoured and grateful. Thank you and God bless you.’
