Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL), the only indigenous oil marketing company in the country, has presented a cheque for GH¢10,000 to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), as its contribution to the 39th SWAG Awards Night scheduled for the Banquet Hall of the State House on Saturday, 17th May, 2014.

Making the presentation, Patrick Akorli, Managing Director of GOIL, said the company had increased the sponsorship package because the management was satisfied with the professional manner in which last year’s Awards Night was organized.

‘More importantly, we, at GOIL, see sports as a tool to create national cohesion and stability, hence producing a health citizenry towards national development,’ he said.

SWAG President, Mr. Ackah Anthony, who received the cheque, thanked GOIL for its continuous support and said from all indications, Saturday’s event will be exciting.

In another development, the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has donated 10 laptops to SWAG to be presented to some of the award winners.

Kofi Attor, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GIFEC, a sports enthusiast, directed that the laptops should be given to selected award winners who are in school.

First Capital Plus Bank, sponsors of the nation’s Premier League, also donated GH¢5,000 in support of Saturday’s SWAG Awards Night, with Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited giving some quantities of Star Beer to the organizers as their contribution towards the upcoming event on Saturday.
