GETFund constructs kindergarten for Ahweafitamu

A sod-cutting ceremony has been organised for work to commence on a three-unit kindergarten (KG) block for the Ahweafitamu D/A Basic School in the Gomoa East District in the Central Region.

The project, which is expected to be completed within 18 months with funds from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), is to provide a conducive learning environment for the pupils. State of school

The old structure is made of bamboo and roofed with iron sheets.

KG 1 and 2 pupils in the school have had to study together in the same classroom, making teaching and learning very difficult.

The state of the old structure is life- threatening, as it could easily be destroyed by a strong wind. MP’s address

Speaking at the ceremony, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Gomoa Central Constituency, Mrs Rachel Florence Apoh Opoku,  who did the sod-cutting, said the project was to help provide quality education to the pupils.

She said the project was in fulfilment of a campaign promise she made to the people of the town to provide a fitting kindergarten block for the school.

Mrs Opoku, a Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, said the government, as the major stakeholder in education, was committed to the provision of educational facilities  such as classroom blocks and learning material to the citizenry.

She advised the parents to enrol their children in school and stop taking them to farm, since it was through education that they could live better lives in future. District Chief Executive

The Gomoa East District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Isaac Kingsley Ahunu-Armah, said the project was part of the agenda of the government to provide quality education to children across the country.

He said the government would commit more resources in the future to ensure that additional classroom blocks were constructed to make the school a fully fledged one.

He advised parents to commit their resources to educating their children, so that they could be responsible adults in future. Chief of town

The Chief of the town, Nana Kwesi Bentum I, lauded the MP and the government for the project, adding that it would help improve academic performance of the pupils.
