Allied Health Sciences Alumni Support School

Some of the alumni exchanging pleasantries
The alumni of the School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) of the University of Ghana have expressed disappointment over the deplorable state of the school’s hostel which has not seen any renovation since the inception of the school.

This came to light last Friday at an alumni fund-raising and dinner dance held at the University of Ghana Medical School Dean’s Guest House in Korle-Bu in Accra to raise funds to help renovate part of the school’s hostel.

Ignatius A. Nchor, who spoke on behalf of the alumni, said that the Ministry of Health promised and showed them a five year development plan but that had not been realised.

He encouraged his colleague alumni to help raise funds to support the school which trained them to become the professionals they are.

At the end of the fundraising, an amount of GH¢12,710 was realised.

Reverend Professor Patrick F. Ayeh-Kumi, Dean of SAHS, who was impressed about the gesture thanked the alumni and urged them to do more towards the development of their alma mater as well as promote the image of the school.

For him, the demand was urgent as the population of the school is likely to go up due to the huge number of applications received this year.

SAHS currently has a total of about 600 undergraduate and postgraduate students who are being trained in courses such as physiotherapy, medical laboratory sciences, radiography, dietetics and occupational therapy.

The school also runs postgraduate courses in audiology, dietetics, medical ultrasonography and medical laboratory sciences.
