Strive for excellence – Companies advised


A former Member of the Council of State, Professor Akilagpa Sawyer, has urged Ghanaian companies to strive to become models of excellence in their business endeavours.

According to him, products made in Ghana should not be substandard but should be able to compete with known and acclaimed international brands in terms of quality, productivity, and reliable services.

Prof Sawyer made these remarks at the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Strategic Communication Africa (Stratcomm Africa) in Accra.

He indicated that Stratcomm Africa had been a leader in the field of communication in the country and beyond because of its insistence on excellence and high standards in all its work, adding that “that should be the model for all Ghanaian companies”.  The ceremony 

The celebration, which was on the theme, “Our Story, Your Story… A Vision Pursued,” was to thank God for the successes chalked up by the company in the 20  years of its existence. 

It was also used to reward the Senior Communications Manager, Ms Gillian Baaba Heathcote, and the General Services Officer, Mr Benjamin Adumoah Anang, who had served the company selflessly in the past years. 

The function was graced with the presence of ministers of state, the academia,  the business community in Ghana and beyond, as well as friends and families.  Stratcomm Africa 

Established in May 1994 on a study table with one volunteer and one graduate employee, Stratcomm Africa, today, has a well-established business with more than 50 employees who have provided services to about hundred clients both locally and internationaly. 

It has also been a training ground for many young graduates who have moved on to deploy their skills in other organisations in the country and beyond. 

The company currently has two subsidiaries namely Soft Landing which focuses on helping business travellers to adjust to local content and Skill Hives, a skill enhancement institution for individuals and organisations.   CEO’s address  

In her address, the founder and CEO of Stratcomm Africa, Ms Esther Amba Numaba Cobbah, said her postgraduate training at the School of Communication Studies, Legon, and courses such as Communication for Developing Nations and Organisational and Intercultural Communication at Cornell University during her Master’s programme stirred her passion to use the professional discipline to contribute to national, organisational and individual development. 

Speaking about the journey so far, she indicated that “it has been one of a success as well as challenges. It is joy as well as pain. It is one of hope as well as despair”, however, she chose to dwell on the hope because God had been the strength of Stratcomm. Client and media commended

The Board Chairman of Stratcomm, Prof Samuel K. Adjapong, thanked the clients of the company as well as the media for the collaboration over the years in pursuit of their objectives.

“Our high professional standards will continue to be placed at the disposal of all our clients,” he said in assurance.  Solidarity messages

Solidarity messages from the Business Council for Africa (BCA), Association of Ghana Industries,(AGI), the Institute of Public Relations Ghana, the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana and many others, together with clients of Stratcomm commended the company for providing quality and efficient services in the communication industry in the country and beyond.
