GRIDCO restores power after last night’s damage

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) says it has completed repair works on transmission lines that got damaged on Wednesday, May 14, 2014.

Most parts of the capital and Tema metropolis were plunged into darkness when cables fell off their main station at Achimota.

This affected GRIDCO’s ability to supply power to their stations in Accra, Tema and Takoradi.

Albert Quainoo, head of Public Relations at GRIDCO confirmed to Joy News “we have repaired the lines and restored it into service”.

“We are supplying all the available generation from the generators to consumers in Accra,” he indicated and assured that as the peak period approaches, the load will be increased to meet supply.

However, not all areas would have light today. He explained that areas that are scheduled to go off as part of the load management plan will not get light.
