The 31st December Women’s Movement has charged women to wake up to the reality that only women themselves can solve the myriad problems facing women.
“The rhetoric of our governments has not yet produced any results. The only real solution undoubtedly lies in the hands of women,” the movement said in a message to mark its 32nd anniversary on Thursday by its General Secretary Ms Sylvia Ahorlu.
The statement maintained: “Over the years, governments and institutions, have failed us women, while corruption has persisted.”

31st DECEMBER WOMEN’S MOVEMENT ANNIVERSARY MESSAGE
Once again, another year has successfully drawn to a close for the 31st December Women’s Movement and we are very grateful to our maker.
This occasion is a time for reflection as each of us has the right and the responsibility to assess the roads which lie ahead and those over which we have travelled. If the future road looms ominous or unpromising, and uninviting then we need to gather our resolve, carrying only the necessary baggage, step off that road into another direction. If the new choice is also unpalatable, without embarrassment, we must be ready to change that as well.
The suffering of women and children has persisted in Ghana and the rest of Africa for too long. The stealing of newborn children, the economic hardship facing almost everyone and the abduction of children in other parts of our continent.
The rhetoric of our governments has not yet produced any results. The only real solution undoubtedly lies in the hands of women.
The condition of Ghana and Africa is deeply confusing and extremely complex, nevertheless, we the 31st December Women’s Movement believe that women are presented with a unique opportunity to take the bull by the horns and provide solutions to the problems facing our continent.
We must play a leading and pivotal role in our country and continent’s affairs as a matter of urgency
Over the years, governments and institutions, have failed us women, while corruption has persisted.
As women we need and demand a well functioning government, a sound business environment, an equitable distribution of resources, acceptance of the rights of others, good relations with neighbors, the free flow of information, high levels of human capital, low levels of corruption and a country with sound security for all.
If these comparative areas are improved, it will reduce the vulnerabilities ofwomen in Ghana.
We use this occasion to challenge all women to speak out now and together we can build and restore Ghana. For the sake of the suffering masses whose interest is our prime concern, we urge all gender activists, companies, NGO’s and individuals to continue to be the voice of the voiceless.
We are grateful to all our supporters and all NGO’s whose resolve has been to keep women and children’s issues alive.
We take this opportunity to congratulate all our women and well-wishers and wish them a happy anniversary.
