New SPY Chief Assumes Office

Larry Anthony Gbevlo-Lartey, on Monday, handed over his duties of National Security Co-ordinator to Yaw Donkor at a short, but impressive ceremony at the forecourt of the Secretariat.

Present at the Handing Over Ceremony, were Heads of the Agencies under the National Security Council Secretariat.

A press statement sent to The Herald from the Secretariat said “in a remark, the outgoing National Security Co-ordinator expressed his satisfaction for the co-operation and support he received during his tenure of office and asked same for his successor”.

After taking the symbol of office, the new National Security Co-ordinator, thanked his predecessor for his selfless service.

He urged the staff of the National Security Council Secretariat for their co-operation as they did for his predecessor to enable him also succeed.

The ex-Commander of the 64 Infantry Battalion Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces, who was looking very hearty was symbolically pulled out of the office premises nicknamed Blue Gate or Castle Annex in a vehicle driven by some soldiers to the admiration of his former subordinates.

Mr. Donkor, an ex-Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), was two weeks ago, asked to take over as National Security Coordinator in an acting capacity.

A statement released by the Information and Media Relations Minister, Mahama Ayariga said, the new changes made by President John Dramani Mahama at the National Security Council Secretariat takes effect from May 12, 2014.

The statement said, Pious Awelinga was to take over as the Acting Director of BNI.

The statement said at a meeting with Lt. Col. Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, President Mahama commended and thanked him for his loyalty and dedicated service to the State.

He is to be re-assigned later, after his “well-deserved leave”.
