Three arrested for stealing supermarket safe

The Tema Regional Police have arrested three suspected thieves who allegedly stole a metal safe containing a large sum of money belonging to the employer of one of the suspects.

The suspects were Sylvester Donkor, Richard Apau and Jonathan Ahinful, an employee of Lara Mart Supermarket at Tema Community Two, where the safe was stolen from.

They are in police detention pending further investigations.

Briefing journalists, the Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mrs Beatrice Zakpaa Vib-Sanziri, said on Friday May 9 the Tema Community Two police patrol team intercepted a Nissan Almera taxicab, with registration number

GT 5392 -12, driven by Sylvester Donkor while having two other occupants.

She said a search on the car revealed a metal safe containing money which was being transported to an unknown destination.

DCOP Vib-Sanziri said further interrogation indicated that Jonathan Ahinful, a worker at Lara Mart, connived with Richard Apau and broke into the shop to carry the safe away.

She cautioned employers to check the background of those they employed because such cases of stealing, alongside robbery, according to her, were on the increase.

DCOP Vib-Sanziri extended the caution to especially those who hired the services of security men and also house helps, adding that “these are people who connive with criminals to rob their employers”.
