Representatives of three institutions who were billed to appear before the Judgement Debt Commission yesterday to provide information on cases against them were unable to show up.
When the cases were called, counsel for the commission, Mr Dometi Kofi Sorkpor, said the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning had requested the adjournment of the cases.
In the case of the BNI, he said the BNI had informed the commission that due to the handover of the position of National Security Co-ordinator from Lt Col Larry Gbevlo-Lartey to Mr Yaw Donkor yesterday, its representatives could not appear before the commission.
Officials of the BNI had been invited to provide information on cases against the BNI and notices of intention to sue the institution.
The case was, therefore, adjourned to May 14, 2014.
Finance Ministry
The second case was for representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to provide information on the divestiture of the Ghana Consolidated Diamonds Limited (GCD) at Akwatia.
Mr Sorpkor said representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning had indicated that its solicitor had travelled outside the country.
The case was, therefore, adjourned to May 20, 2014.
When the case involving the GRA was called, counsel for the commission said the GRA was to answer questions on some claims against the state by the Construction Pioneers (CP).
He said an officer from the tax division of the GRA had assured the commission of the division’s preparedness to appear before the commission.
Mr Sorkpor said he could not explain why the GRA representatives did not show up.
Consequently, the case was adjourned to May 21, 2014.
Sole Commissioner
On the lighter side, the Sole Commissioner of the Judgement Debt Commission, Mr Justice Yaw Apau, said the absence of the three institutions could be that the officers were still in the Mothers Day blues.
He said some of the officers might have travelled to their home towns to see their mothers.
