THE KUMASI Central Market was once again gutted by a ferocious inferno on Saturday evening, DAILY GUIDE has gathered.
The fire was said to have started around 11:00 pm on Saturday when most inhabitants of Kumasi were asleep.
The inferno reportedly started at the ‘Adehyee’ area of the market and spread at top speed, flattening everything on sight.
About 40 stalls were consumed by the inferno, sources told DAILY GUIDE, adding that several items were consumed.
The affected stalls were laden with items such as cosmetics, provisions and cloths.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service rushed to the scene to battle the fire when they received a distress call.
Sources said it took the fire-fighters about two hours to bring the blaze under control.
The fire-fighters struggled to get access to the market and deal with the situation, it was gathered.
The Kumasi Central Market has often been gutted by dangerous infernos which usually destroy precious items.
Parts of the market were gutted by similar dangerous infernos some months ago, rendering most of the affected traders poor.
