The Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) have sponsored 40 employees to offer a Master’s degree programme in Public Administration at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) .The programme is intended to enhance the capacities of the employees in public administration.
The students, 20 each from VRA and GRIDCO would be studyng at the School of Governance and Public Service of GIMPA. GRIDCO
Addressing the employees the Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCO, Mr William Amuna, encouraged the students to take their academic activities seriously.
He also challenged them to excel in their academic work and added that “I have confidence in you and I know you will all perform better than previous students of this course”.
Mr Amuna gave the assurance that the management of GRIDCO would continue to upgrade the skills of their staff to facilitate the transmission of regular power supply. VRA
In a speech read on his behalf, the Chief Executive Officer of the VRA, Mr Isaac Kirk Koffi, indicated that the inclusion of staff of the VRA on the course was part of the authority’s succession plan aimed at equipping staff to occupy critical positions in the company.
He said the VRA had a tentative programme designed to regularly upgrade the skills of its staff and further stated that the course would enhance the skills of staff in policy formulation, analysis and policy implementation.
The GIMPA, Professor Franklyn Manu reiterated the commitment of the institute to enhancing the capacity of public and civil servants.
He said GIMPA was established with the core mandate of developing the human resource of the public sector in the country said the effort to would enhance the capacity of staff “ has come at a time when the energy sector is facing challenges and this course will help address these challenges”.
The course, according to Prof Manu, would also improve the management practices of the two beneficiary institutions and commended the management of VRA and GIMPA for building the capacity of their staff.
