Golden Stool No Show

A replica of the Golden Stool, being carried to the durbar grounds

The Golden Stool, which is believed to possess a special spirit that unites Asantes, was absent at the grand Akwasidae to climax the 15 th Anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II yesterday.

The Manhyia Palace made several announcements that the sacred Golden Stool would be brought to the venue for the first time in five years.

Kojo Bonsu, Kumasi Mayor, who was part of the planning committee of the grand durbar of chiefs and people of Asanteman, said at an earlier press conference that the Golden Stool would be displayed at the event.

He therefore charged the people to travel to the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi to observe the Golden Stool.

Hundreds of people, especially those that were eager to catch a glimpse of the Golden Stool, thronged the streets from Abrotia to the stadium.

The Asantehene and his retinue were supposed to use the Abrotia route to the stadium. People moved to the area as early as 6am.

The people stood there for several hours until the Asantehene, flanked by his elders and servants, appeared to a rapturous applause.

Ideally, the Golden Stool was supposed to be some few meters ahead of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who was dressed in rich ‘Kente’ cloth and gold ornaments in palanquin.

Many people intended to catch a glimpse of the Golden Stool.

The original Golden Stool was conjured from the sky by the dreaded fetish priest Komfo Anokye in the past.

Two people, who were dressed in cloth, carried two replica of the Golden Stool during the event.

Most of the people that spoke to DAILY GUIDE, said they were disappointed because they could not observe the sacred item for the first time.
