Revenue collectors must respect taxpayers — MCE

Revenue collectors in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly (EJMA) have been advised not to condone and connive with any person in the course of their operations to defraud the municipality.

They were further advised not to use insulting words against any taxpayer, but rather be diplomatic and adopt good communication skills so as to win their confidence.

The call was made by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Afrifa Yamoah-Ponko, when he opened a one-day orientation workshop organised jointly by the assembly and the Brain Chain Consult Ltd for revenue officers at Ejisu.

He said taxation was the price of development and everyone was supposed to pay tax in order for the government and  the assemblies to mobolise revenue to undertake development projects in communities.

The Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Mr S K Bayo, noted that the assembly, based on the good job of Brain Chain Consult, had expanded its scope to mobilise revenue from business operating permits, property rate (both residential and commercial) and general permits in respect of temporary structures in the municipality.

He said Brain Chain had earlier undertaken operations on advertising and property marketing involving telecommunications companies in the municipality.

The Municipal Finance Officer, Mrs Geneviere T Fuseni, in her contribution, advised the collectors not to indulge in acts of under-invoicing and over-invoicing, but should adopt a genuine approach to their operations.

The Managing Director (MD) of Brain Chain Consult Ltd, Mr Joe Yeboah-Kodie, expressed his profound gratitude to the assembly for the confidence reposed in the company.

He gave an assurance that the company would exhibit quality work to enhance a sustainable, good working relationship with the assembly.
