Ghanaian striker Abdul Basit came off the bench to hit a brace to help Free State Stars maintain their top-flight status with a 3-0 victory over Moroka Swallows in the South African Premier Soccer League on Saturday evening.
Free State Stars started the game a little slowly with both Ghanaian international Basit and Daniel Adjei both on the bench, but came alive in the 28th minute when a shot from an acute angle on the right from Sibusiso Mthethwa struck the side netting.
After a pulsating first-half that ended scoreless, Stars coach Kinnah Phiri introduced the former New Edubiase United striker and he secured the destiny of his side with a double strike.
And, in the 72nd minute Basit turned home a Venter pass to give the Ea Lla Koto a 1-0 lead.
He then grabbed his brace and doubled his side’s lead a minute later, this time expertly scoring from a Henyekane assist.
Free State Stars went into the last game of the season facing the dangers of being relegated from the South African top-flight but a magically moment inspired by the 23-year-old Ghanaian ensured they remain on the top-flight.
The brace took his season tally to 7 goals in 19 league appearances.
