Baptist College holds 5th congregation

Ghana Baptist University College has held its fifth annual congregation ceremony to present degrees to 268 graduates after their studies at the university in Kumasi.

Speaking at the congregation, the President of the Ghana Baptist University College (GBUC), Rev Dr Kojo Osei-Wusuh, said the vision of the university was to produce graduates who were well equipped with knowledge and appropriate life skills for the job market and national development.

He said the problem of graduate unemployment and job creation had become a hot issue due to the shrinking size of the national economy.

He said the vision of the University was to build a University of choice, by virtue of verification, practical and positive impact our graduates make on the field wherever they might be in making society a better place.

He said a science laboratory, 20 classrooms and other facilities had been completed to complement the pending nursing programme targeted to begin next academic year.

He called for support from both government and friends to boost the promotion of tertiary education in the country.

The Chief Executive of Prof. Quarm Publication limited, Mr Joseph Albert Quarm, who was the guest speaker, said as a private university, the quest for fulfilling its sacred responsibility of training next generation of leaders had not been without challenges.

He therefore called on the government to provide equal playing field and sufficient funds to develop the university.

The Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Prof. Edwin K. Wiredu, said the Ghana Baptist University College was prepared to promote affordable and accessible tertiary education.

Prof. Ernest Okorley of the University of Cape Coast assured the Ghana Baptist University College of the university’s commitment to mentor the Ghana Baptist University College to become independent in order to promote quality education in the country.
