The Judgement Debt Commission was on Wednesday told of how a prison officer, Mr Alfred Awusi, who was wrongfully dismissed from the Ghana Prison Service (GPS) in 1989, was paid GH¢5, 470 compensation in 2007.

Narrating the incident, the Managing Partner of Hayibor, Danso and Co Chambers, Mr Charles Hayibor, said Mr Awusi was wrongfully accused of flogging a prisoner in Sunyani and subsequently dismissed from the service.

He said Mr Awusi took the case to court, and the court gave a judgement that he had been transferred to Nsawam at the time he was accused of flogging the prisoner.

The court, therefore, directed the GPS to pay Mr Awusi the compensation of GH¢5,470, which was complied with in 2007.

Mr Hayibor said the court asked the GPS to reinstate Mr Awusi.

However, he said, the GPS wrote to the court that Mr Awusi could not be reinstated because of some conditions. Road compensation
