The Chairman of Swiss-Ghanaian Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Nortey Omaboe has charged government to engage more with businesses to find solutions to their problems.

According to him, the current economic crunch was adversely affecting businesses, adding that ‘we are extremely eager to seek solutions to ensure that our businesses thrive.’

Dr. Omaboe was speaking in an interview with BUSINESS GUIDE at a cocktail meeting in Accra.

‘Government must address some macro-economic issues affecting the smooth running of businesses in the country,’ he said.

Dr. Omaboe said last year the members of the Chamber met Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Trade and Industry to discuss critical issues affecting businesses in the country.

Some of the issues they discussed at the meeting with the Minister included the slowdown in economic activity in 2013 characterised by adverse variances in revenues, the depreciation of the cedi, unstable electricity supply, problems at the ports and the high cost of credit.

Dr. Omaboe said the Minister told them that government had put adequate measures in place to address the economic problems and enhance the business environment in the country.

However, he noted that the issues they raised at the meeting with the Minister still persist and that nothing had been done about it.

Dr. Omaboe appealed to government to consider the plight of businesses and help them survive.

The Swiss-Ghanaian Chamber of Commerce is a dynamic, non-profit organization that intends to become the prime contact point for Swiss-Ghanaian businesses.
