City authorities fail to clear garbage in Laterbiokorshie and its environs

City authorities have failed to clear up garbage piled up for weeks in some parts of the capital, despite assurances the mess would be cleared as early as possible.

Three days ago, Accra Mayor Alfred Vanderpuiye assured residents of Sukura, Laterbiokorshie and Zongo junction that their piled up garbage would be cleared, but Joy News’ checks reveal nothing has changed.

Currently, the residents fear an outbreak of a pandemic in their communities.

Joy News’ Michaela Anderson visited the areas and reported that after Accra Mayor’s promises three days ago, to deal with the situation, the three communities are still reeling under the stench from over-spilling garbage bins that are dotted along the roads in the vicinities.

The rubbish spill into gutters with maggots and flies having a field day.

Residents in the communities fear they will be infected with the malaria parasite in view of the insanitary situation with the onset of the rains.

They are therefore appealing to city authorities to clear the mess as soon as possible in order to save them from environmental contamination.
