Airtel, Ghana Post partner on mobile money

The acting Managing Director of Ghana Post, Mr Samuel Adu Boafo, has urged Ghanaians, especially the business community, to embrace cashless business transactions to reduce the risk associated with carrying large sums of money.

He said a cashless economy would help deepen financial inclusion which was necessary for economic growth and transformation.

Mr Boafo, who was speaking at the launch of the Ghana Post/Airtel Money Transfer in Kumasi last week, said when more institutions embraced the initiative, it would lead to efficiency and enhance business operations by reducing time spent in transacting business.

The collaboration between Airtel Ghana and Ghana Post is to help customers have easy access to Airtel money services, a form of sending and receiving money via the phone.

Customers can also use the platform to top up airtime and pay bills promptly in 150 out of the 350 post offices nationwide.

Mr Boafo said the objective of Ghana Post was to provide a one-stop shop for a variety of services that drew customers to the post office, hence its collaboration with various service providers such as banks, mobile phone operators and microfinance institutions.

The acting managing director of Ghana Post called for improvement in the information technology systems in the country to enable many more customers to use electronic platforms to pay their bills conveniently.

The Corporate Communication and External Affairs Director of Airtel, Mr Donald Gwira, said Ghana Post joined the list of Airtel money agents across the country with the aim of further facilitating customer access to electronic value (e-value).

He said Airtel had engaged over 2,000 Airtel money dealers across the country to enable as many Ghanaians as possible to have access to the Airtel money services.
