NPP doctored Mahama’s Kumasi tape – Allotey Jacobs asserts

The Central Regional Communications Director of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the opposition New Patriotic Party doctored a tape in which President John Mahama is said to have accused the people living in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi of ingratitude.

According to Bernard Allotey Jacobs, the NPP in its desperate attempt to win the 2016 election at all cost wants to malign the president for its own partisan political interest.

President Mahama has been criticized for claiming residents in Kumasi are not appreciative of efforts being made by the NDC administration to develop the area.

Addressing party supporters during his tour of the region last Friday, the president was quoted to have said even if the NDC government tarred the streets of Kumasi with gold, the residents would still say they have done nothing.

But days after the tape went viral; the presidency in a statement issued Wednesday said the tape was doctored.

Even though the presidency did not accuse anybody of the act, Allotey Jacobs on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme stated unequivocally that “the NPP doctored the President Mahama’s tape.

He intimated that, the NPP has realized it is losing grips of its stronghold to the NDC and thus is clutching at straws to remain relevant in the region.

“It has been the style of the NPP to always frustrate the rival party in government. They did it to Kwame Nkrumah and they are doing the same thing to Mahama” he added.

The Central Regional NDC Communications Director claim maintained that considering the unprecedented track record of the Mahama-led administration in the region, “Ashantis will never show ingratitude to Mahama”

“Ashanti region has come alive due to the developmental projects in the area. Desperate situation calls for desperate measures and that is exactly what the NPP has done” he stressed.

Allotey Jacobs said no matter how black the NPP paints President Mahama, his achievements are so visible for Ghanaians to see and appreciate.

“Ashanti Chiefs are praying for President Mahama to win 2016 and bring more development to their area so what the NPP is doing will be an exercise in futility” he stated.

In a quick rebuttal, NPP Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyako said Allotey’s assertion is beyond the bounds of human reasoning.

He indicated that President Mahama over the years has gained notoriety of making such “misguided” comments therefore the NPP cannot be blamed.

The Akyem Swedru MP bemoaned how “the integrity of the presidency has been reduced to the lowest level due to conduct and utterances of President Mahama”.

Ken Nyarko urged government to apologize because the damage control will rather make the government more unpopular. Story by Ghana/Adomonline.com/Adwoa Gyasiwaa
