Techiman MCE Accused Of Assaulting Party Members

Tension is brewing within the National Democratic Congress in the Techiman municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region, over allegations that the Municipal Chief Executive Philip Oppong Amponsah, has engaged a hit squad to terrorize his opponents in the party.

Members of the party say he has been involved in separate attacks on four party members; the latest being the party’s Communications Director in the Techiman Constituency, Mustapha Mohammed.

Mustapha Mohammed told Ultimate Radio, he had gone to the MCE Philip Oppong Amponsah for a promised reimbursement for a party meeting he – Mustapha – had attended on behalf of the constituency.

This he said resulted in a misunderstanding as the MCE refused to release the money for the transportation cost he had incurred to and from the party meeting held in Cape Coast.

He alleged that the hired thugs stormed his house together with the constituency youth organizer, and attacked him with stones leaving an injury in his left eye.

But the Municipal Chief Executive, Philip Oppong Amponsah, has dismissed the allegations. He told Ultimate Radio this is one of the victim’s fabricated stories aimed at tarnishing his image.

Mr. Philip Oppong Amponsah said the constituency Communications Director, has been at his heels ever since he was appointed MCE even to the extent of claiming that he MCE was never appointed by the President.

He contends that he was once a human rights activist who had gained vast experience working with the United Nations High Commission and would not hurt a fly.

The incident is being investigated by the Techiman Police after the communications Director formally lodged a formal complaint.
