I didn’t believe Chater House will give me awards this year – Shatta Wale


Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Jnr popularly known as Shatta Wale has finally revealed his reasons for not going for the Ghana Music awards even though he was not performing on the night.

The artiste who won the overall artiste of the year speaking in an exclusive interview with Hitz Entertainment new Monday 5 May 2014, he said based on the controversies that surrounded him last year, a lot of peoplehe didn’t believe he will win an award this year. He added that organizers of the awards wanted him to be there this year and also perform but he didn’t go because they could not pay him 70,000 cedis on the night. 

He said “I overhead they paid artistes from Nigeria 40,000 and 45,000 dollars  but when I asked for 70,000 cedis, organizers refused because I told them I don’t really need an award from them because I don’t trust them, so I was really surprised they gave me all those awards”.

He added “they refused to pay me because they wanted to take me cheap like they take other Ghanaian artistes for cheap that is why I didn’t go for the awards”.

Shatta Wale says he believes through God, his fans have come to realize that he does not do music to abuse people but rather educates people through music and that is what he believes Chatter House has seen that is why they gave him those awards even though he didn’t believe they would give him awards this year.

The dancehall king also says he wants people to know that he didn’t come to the Conference centre after the awards as widely speculated but was only passing by and people saw him and decided to jubilate with him. He says he had gone to eat at his Mangers bar and decided to use the route which he believes does not belong to anyone, so people should not think he came to the venue for any reason.

He advised Ghanaian artiste to unite and be one so they can fight for their rights otherwise the poverty in the music industry will be great.  He said “ As for me Shatta Wale, I have promised myself and God that I am not going to be poor in this music industry and I m going to make sure I bring a change because I want artiste to be respected ,So artiste who perform for free should stop because its killing the industry.

He also thank God for blessing Chatter House and also opening  their eyes to see good talents like him and awarded  him for the talent adding he believes it’s a good  thing for him.

Shatta Wale won the popular song of the year and the Overall prize, Artiste of the year which were both received by a lady on his behalf.
