Ashanti Region NHIA undertakes peer review exercise

The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has begun a peer review exercise to help bring improvement into its operations.

Staff of the authority would be expected to share ideas on how the various district schemes manage challenges with respect to their operations so that others could emulate.

At the first of its kind in Kumasi yesterday, 25 district managers and 17 members of the Monitoring and Evaluation office from the NHIA regional administration took part in the exercise to review capitation, co-payment and other issues that confront the smooth operations of the scheme.

Line officers in the region such as claims officers, public relations officers, accountants, and Management and Information Systems personnel will constitute the next batch to participate in the peer review next month to enable them to share ideas on their operations, as well as the challenges they encounter, and find solution to them.

Addressing the participants, the Ashanti Regional Director of the NHIA, Mr Daniel A. Frempong, commended the staff of the scheme for their effort at ensuring that Ghanaians had better healthcare delivery in the region.

He called on managers of the various schemes to share ideas on their operations, since that could help others to also manage their challenges.

“Henceforth absenteeism and lateness to work would not be tolerated so make sure you report to work on time to ensure efficiency at the workplace so as to serve our clients very effectively,” he said.

Mr Frempong said there was the need for the managers to create the right and enabling environment to ensure that everything they aimed at supporting their clients and people to bring development into the operations of the scheme.

He appealed to the staff to continue working hard and showing more dedication in the course of performing their duties, saying that there was the need to be creative to bring innovation to their operations.
