Acherensua Traditional Council donates land for GIS Training School

The Acherensua Traditional Council has donated 80 acres to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for the establishment of a second GIS Training School.

In appreciation of the gesture, the leadership of the GIS has presented a carton of Schnapps, a ram, and an undisclosed amount of money to the Paramount Chief of Acherensua Traditional Area, Agyewodin Professor Adu Gyamfi Ampem II.

Currently, the only GIS Training School is at Assin-Fosu in the Central Region.

  Delegation
The Director of the GIS, Commissioner of Police (COP) Dr Peter Wiredu, led a delegation of top officials of the GIS to pay a courtesy call on Agyewodin Prof. Ampem.

Dr Wiredu earlier paid a courtesy call on the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, where the latter appealed to the Ghana Immigration Service Director to establish a post at Dokokyina to check  the influx of foreign nationals who had been engaging in illegal mining activities.

  Immigration Office
At Acherensua, Dr Peter Wiredu disclosed that plans were underway to establish an immigration office at Kenyasi to cater for the number of expatriate officials in the area, especially those of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited within the Ahafo Mines concession.

He said the establishment of the Kenyasi office would ease the inconveniences of the officials of Newmont Ghana Gold limited who had to travel from Kenyasi to Accra to process their documents.

Dr Wiredu also indicated that the office would help in the decentralisation process of the Ghana Immigration Service, where other people could go to process their passport and other immigration-related issues without wasting time and resources to travel to Sunyani or Accra.

He commended Agyewodin Professor Ampem for the land, giving an assurance that the land would be used to meet the expectation of the Acherensua Traditional Council.

Agyewodin Ampem called on the Director of Immigration Service to, as a matter of urgency, start work on the land to prevent people from encroaching on it.

He later led Dr Wiredu and his entourage including the Assistant Director of Immigration, Mr Laud Affrifah; the Head of Intelligence, Mr Justice Amevor, and the Commandant of Immigration Academy and Training School  to visit the 80-acre land.
