Dunkwa United owner congratulates Feyenoord for Ghana Premier League promotion

By Emmanuel Baah-Aboagye
Owner and president of Dunkwa United FC Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane has congratulated Gomoa-based Feyenoord for qualifying to the Ghana Premier League at their expense.

The medical doctor cum football administrator also believes ill luck coupled with poor refereeing decisions denied them a historic promotion.

Dunkwa, who needed a win in their final playoff match against the academy side, lost 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium

“I would say we were hard done by hard luck because we had our chances that if we had utilized, the story would have been different”, he told Dunkwa-based Solar Fm.

“The players did very well and we played better than Feyenoord except that we didn’t have the element of luck on our side.

“Actually there were a lot of limitations on the part of the centre referee that I wouldn’t want to talk about. Perhaps, if they had worked to our advantage, I don’t think we would have complained so I think we should learn to accept the defeat in good faith.

“This is Feyenoord’s year and I congratulate them on this feat. We are not disappointed except that we have laboured so hard to get here and I think we need to go back to the drawing board and correct our mistakes.”

He also paid glowing tribute to the club’s teeming supporters and donors.

“Our supporters have been fantastic. They have been the 12th player all season round. Our donors have done us a lot of assistance getting this far and we hope to make them proud next season.”
