Mahama holds talks with Asantehene


President John Mahama is due to inaugurate a water project at Asante Mampong as he continues his tour of the Ashanti Region.

Earlier he held talks with the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace.

The two leaders discussed ongoing developmental projects within the region.

Presidential spokesperson Ben Dotse Malor told Joy FM the atmosphere at Manhyia was wonderful.

He said the Asantehene and his sub-chiefs pledged their support for the president.

He said the president assured the Asantehene of government’s preparation to complete the expansion project at the Kumasi Airport and also to revamp the DIHOC shoe factory.

Meanwhile, the Manhyia Palace and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly are teaming up to whip up public enthusiasm about next week’s Akwasidaekese Festival to climax the 15th anniversary of the enstoolment of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Akwasidaekese is the biggest gathering to showcase the cultural heritage of the people of the Ashanti Region.

It is one of the few occasions when the Golden Stool, the spirit of the kingdom is displayed.

Chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace, Kofi Badu, told Joy News high-profile personalities, both foreign and local are expected to grace the occasion on the 11th of May, 2014.
