Drivers cautioned to observe diversion on Kasoa-Mallam road

Motorists using the Mallam-Kasoa road have been advised to approach the diversion in front of the West Hills Mall now under construction with caution to avoid needless accidents.

The road from Kasoa to Mallam will be diverted at Dunkonah Junction near the Weija Shoprite Supermarket at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, Sunday, May 4, 2014 to pave the way for work to begin on the construction of an underpass. Motorists will use the diversion until the completion of the underpass in about six months.

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani, gave the advise after he had inspected work on the diversion.

He said even though the riding surface of the diversion was good, it was important for motorists to slow down and observe diversion signs as they approach the construction zone.

Alhaji Sulemani, who was accompanied by the Chief Director, Dr Daniel Darku, and other directors from the ministry, however, urged the contractors of the mall to cordon off the construction site to prevent curious motorists from taking a peep, which could also result in accidents.    Diversion and underpass

Messrs High Brains Limited, a local construction firm, has been engaged to work on the underpass. Expected to provide convenient, safe and uninterrupted access to the West Hills Mall, the biggest shopping mall in West Africa.

Working according to Ghana Highway Authority standards and specifications, the contractors have put in place multiple safety measures to ensure a smooth and incident free ride for motorists. Among these are cat’s eyes installed along the diverted stretch to improve safety on the corridor.

Messrs High Brains Limited has provided cat’s eyes along the road to improve safety on the corridor.

Other safety measures provided also include new jersey barriers with reflective markings and lights mounted along  ditches or routes with steep sides. Its essence according to the contractor is to create a safe embankment along  those ditches and routes with steep sides.

Marked bamboo bollards have also been provided along the diverted route and special speed tables built to slow down traffic.

Additionally, flagmen will be positioned along the entry and exit points of the diversion while personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) will also be detailed to manage the traffic.

Adequate directional signage on site will also be provided.
