Govt, organized labour agree on 10% COLA; 14.5% minimum wage

Organized labour has reached an agreement with government to cushion public sector workers with 10 percent cost of living allowance (COLA).

The parties also agreed to increase the minimum wage by 14.5 percent, Joy News’ Joseph Opoku Gakpo gathered from an ongoing meeting between the parties.

The joint standing negotiation committee concluded that the 2014 cost of living allowance will be paid in lieu of an increase in the Base Pay on the Single Spine Salary Structure.

The COLA will represent 10 percent of the 2013 Basic Salary and would be paid effective May 2014

The Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee (PSJSNC) comprises Government, represented by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, on one hand, and Organised Labour on the other.
