Today, hundreds of Kaduna State women staged a protest over 200 girls who were abducted by Boko Haram in Borno State and are still missing.
On Monday, April 14, the town of Chibok in Borno State was raided by the Boko Haram insurgents who abducted over 200 female students, mostly aged from 16 to 18 years, from Girls’ Government Secondary School. The military said they have to act discreetly so as not to compromise safety of the girls.
The women gathered at the Murtala Mohammed Square in Kaduna, the state’s capital, at about 10 a.m. They marched around holding placards and chanted demands for the Government to make efforts to release the girls.
Sa’adatu Hama, the leader of the movement, accused the Federal Government of lacking will to secure the release of the innocent girls.
Nigeria has been engulfed in a series of protests staged to draw attention to the missing girls. Also today, a peaceful protest was held in Lagos. Similar events have been held in Abuja, Kano and Oyo states.
