‘Capitation In Ashanti Is Mischievous’

According to them, the on-going capitation policy is an inferior tactics diabolically calculated to mete out an absurdly unfair treatment to the people in the region for no parent reason.

In a message to rally support for the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako’s call for demonstration against government, the NPP-USA Public Relations Committee said it was highly inappropriate and unacceptable within the realm of common sense for a government to choose a populous region to pilot such a scheme.

‘This display defies the logic and principles of research and effective programme management. It exposes the ineptitude and incompetence of the Mahama government and unveils his vicious anti-Ashanti agenda,’ the message stated.

Mr. Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, recently called on the NDC government to withdraw the NHIS capitation policy from the Ashanti Region or be greeted with an ‘Arab Spring’ style demonstration by the residents.

The call, which baffled some members of the ruling party, was demonized as the NDC apparatchiks impugned treasonable motives against the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman.

But the NPP-USA branch had backed the call, asserting that the policy is a ‘killer’ one which had contributed to the decline of health services in the region.

They argued that in testing whether a new policy would work required a small sample of a population for such an exercise.

According to the NPP members, government failed to observe the rudiments of effective testing of a policy which could have helped unravel deficiencies, loopholes, and operational lapses in its mode of operation.

‘Failure to observe these rudiments of effective policy facilitation calls for an unqualified and unconditional apology from the government to the people of the Ashanti Region,’ the statement pointed out.

It is against this background that members of NPP-USA said they were solidly rallying behind Chairman Wontumi’s call and all other similar calls for government to scrap off the capitation, pointing out that the people in the region deserved better healthcare.

‘We call on Chairman Wontumi not to shudder in his quest to seek social, economic, health and political justice for the people of his region, for NPP-USA is backing him,’ the statement indicated.

They also cautioned the Mahama-led government to desist from using the erstwhile ‘Soviet KGB tactics’ to intimidate Chairman Antwi-Boasiako.

‘Resorting to his nefarious KGB tactics – bribery, intimation and threat of murder – will not work because the whole world is watching him and his …corrupt regime closely.’
