Water Crisis Hits Offinso North And Parts Of Techiman…DCE & MCE Under Pressure

Barely three months ago, residents of Offinso North and parts of Techiman Municipality went through water crises as a result of an accident that eventually broke the pipeline at Tanoso.

In an interview with the engineer, thus the workshop base engineer, Mr. Agyekum Agyemang who repaired the damaged pipeline indicated that the pipeline costs a little about One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵100,000).

After the damaged pipeline was fixed, another accident occurred at the same point. Speaking to the Brong -Ahafo Regional Manager of GWCL Mr. Nkrumah, he said the Techiman police patrol team chased a DAF vehicle suspected to be carrying slabs of wood heading towards Techiman.

The long vehicle on reaching a hill failed to apply to a brake and eventually drew back the vehicle unto the pipeline hence the damage.

Cruz Fm spoke to the two political heads including the District Chief Executive and the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Appiah Kubi and Hon. Phillip Oppong Amponsah respectively who met the Regional Manager of GWCL and the Municipal Police Command and came out with the resolution that the two assemblies will pay part of the cost.

Meanwhile, both the old and current vehicles have been impounded by the police and the first driver fined by the court, and standing trial at the Techiman Circuit Court.

However, a group led by a Reverend Minister, Rev. Nyame Dankwah tried a peaceful demonstration against authorities before the first incident was repaired and the same group again is trying to demonstrate and has given an ultimatum that by 15th May, 2014 they will demonstrate if the damaged pipeline was not fixed.
