The Ministry of Communication has launched two projects that will enhance the deployment of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services in the country.
One of the projects, a $5 million Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) Centre for the Public Works Department (PWD), will serve as an ICT hub to receive data, process information and serve as a medium to outsource information to agencies within and outside Ghana.
The second project is the setting up of a Health Information Access Centre at the College of Health Sciences, located at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. It is being set up at the cost of $3,200 to serve as an e-learning centre for health professionals and students.
Purpose of the projects
During a tour of the BPO Centre, the Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane , said the ministry would establish similar projects across the country, saying Ghana needed to catch up with the growth of ICT across the globe.

Launching the e-learning centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Boamah said when fully completed, it would improve access to information by medical officers, using ICT.
He explained that the facility would aid communication among doctors through a specific medium, using fibre optic and assured Ghanaians that adequate measures had been put in place for the management of the facilities.
