Resolve dispute over Ga Mantse

The Minister  of  Chieftaincy  and Traditional Affairs, Dr Henry Daanaa, has called on the parties involved in the litigation over the legitimacy of the late Ga Mantse, King Tackie Tawiah, to attend the sittings of the Judicial Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to speed up the process to resolve the matter amicably.

Addressing members of the Regional House of Chiefs at Dodowa, Dr Daanaa noted that since Accra was the national capital, it was only proper that everything was done to ensure that the motion was ruled on as soon as possible.

  Advice to the House
“After seven years of hearing this matter, what the government expects is that everything is done to ensure that the motion is heard and a befitting ruling is passed, so that whoever wants to appeal against the ruling can do so,” the minister said.

He said it was the desire of the government to ensure that the chieftaincy institution maintained the peace in the various traditional areas where there were no disputes.

He explained that he had the  duty to work towards the prevention of chieftaincy disputes and conflicts through legislation, sensitisation and seminars and also resolve existing disputes which had become a national canker.

  Positive  results 
Dr Daanaa said so far under his watch, the National House of Chiefs had been able to resolve some serious chieftaincy disputes in Sandema in the Upper East Region and in the Akwapim Traditional Area.

He said  other chieftaincy disputes in Bimbila in the Northern and Nsuatre in the Brong Ahafo regions had also been slated for consideration.

  Regional registrar
The  Registrar of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Mr Harry Attipoe, gave an assurance that the Judicial Committee of the House would, as soon as possible, revisit  the ruling on the Ga Mantse case.

He explained that the ruling which had been given on the matter had generated a lot of controversy, for which an interested party had filed a motion for a review  of that ruling.

 He stated that the Judicial Committee would sit  to hear the motion that had been filed.
