The 2014 Ghana beach soccer leagues have kicked off simultaneously in Accra with major upsets already recorded.
Defending champions and winners from the past two editions of the CAL Bank Championship league Keta Sunset Sports began their title defence with a 2-1 defeat to neighbours Havedzi Mighty Warriors.
Ten matches, in the Championship and lower tier Division One leagues were honoured on week one at the La Beach Soccer Arena.
Most beach soccer fans had trooped to the arena to witness the Keta derby between Sunset and Warriors regarded as Volta’s best. Havedzi Warriors came out tops recording a tough 2-1 victory over their bitter rivals courtesy goals in from Kudadah Sampson and Michael Torsu.
The win was not without a cost as Warriors captain and man of the match Innocent Kumensah had to be stretchered off the sand pitch before the end of the third session.
Boosted by the result from the Volta derby, coach Maxwell Kpeglo of Ada Assurance wasted no time in dispatching newly promoted Nima BSC with a 5-2 thumping. The Championship debutants Nima Bsc will take solace from bravery at getting on the score sheet twice through Seidu Traore, Something their compatriots Gulf powers- who were trounced 3-0 by Dansoman Bsc , failed to do.
