Bola Ray adjudged 2013 Entertainment Entrepreneur of the Year


Host of Drive Time on Joy FM and CEO of Empire Group of Companies, Kwabena Anokye Adisi popularly known as Bola Ray, was adjudged Entertainment Entrepreneur of the Year 2013 at the 4th edition of Ghana Entrepreneur Awards at the Banquet Hall, State House, Friday.

Bola Ray is undoubtedly one of Ghana’s foremost personalities when it comes to entertainment.

As a result of his undying love for the industry, he established Empire Group of companies, which has its footprints in different spheres of entertainment in Ghana.

Subsidiaries of Empire Group of Companies include Empire Entertainment, and Empire 102.7 FM in Takoradi. His outfit is known for the annual ‘Ghana Meets Naija’ concert which is one of the biggest musical concerts on the Ghanaian entertainment calendar.

That event provides a common platform for top-notch artistes from both Ghana and Nigeria – two of West Africa’s biggest rivals – to share a common stage to entertain patrons.

Bola Ray told Myjoyonline.com in an interview after the awards that: “I dedicate [the award] to Jehovah God Almighty, my lovely family, my workers at Empire for their teamwork and support. Also to my following out there for believing in me and pushing me up there. Sincerely grateful and humbled by the award.”

He added the award will definitely spur him “on to do more,” and “to other budding entrepreneurs, I say to them let’s continue to go the extra mile and deliver the desired results. We should all make a difference and to my MBA class of Atis Business School, Milan Italy, I dedicate this award to you as well.”  

The Ghana Entrepreneur Awards is organized annually by Entrepreneur Foundation to recognise and award outstanding Ghanaian entrepreneurs and non Ghanaian resident entrepreneurs who continue to contribute towards national development through job creation.

President and Founder of Entrepreneur Foundation, Mr. Sam Ato Gaisie in his welcome address said the award is built on the idea that entrepreneurs will continue to innovate and sustain their leadership in their respective industry.

“Three elements are in place here; benchmarking against best practices, recognition of past and current entrepreneurship efforts, continued publicity and public attention.” Mr. Gaisie said.

He said his foundation will serve as an important medium to inspire Ghanaians to undertake the entrepreneurship path to enhance visibility of Ghanaian entrepreneurs and businesses.

The Man Bola Ray:
Bola Ray was born on the March 1, 1977. His life is a story of determination, persistence honesty and success. He is one of the entertainment industry’s most successful and respected personalities who will stop at nothing to see his dream wheel rise nonstop.

He had his secondary education at Accra Academy. Afterwards he did his National Service at Radio Universe and then moved on to the School of Administration, University of Ghana, Legon (now the University of Ghana Business School). Whiles in his second year at the university, he also enrolled at the Central University College where he studied Business Administration.

He therefore holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the Central University as well. He is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.
