Aboakyir Festival not suspended- Committee

The Planning Committee of the 2014 Aboakyir Festival of the chiefs and people of Winneba has said this year’s celebration of the festival has not been suspended.

According to the committee, any information to the contrary should, therefore, be disregarded.

Addressing a press conference in Winneba, the Chairman of the committee, Mr Alex Peter Acquah, said information in sections of the media, attributed to the two Asafo companies, was untrue and stressed that the Chief Asafohen of the companies, Capt. Essiful Amantra for Dentsifo No. 2 and Ntedu Kakebu for Tuafo No. 1, had not granted audience to any person or group of persons about their intention to suspend the celebration of this year’s festival.

He noted that with one accord, the two Asafo companies had openly declared their readiness to celebrate the 2014 Aboakyir Festival in grand style.

According to the chairman, since the launch of the festival on April 1, 2014, which was graced by representatives of the two Asafo companies, the committee had held meetings with the Central Regional Police Commander and the Tufohen, after which all had resolved never to deny the people of the Effutu State their desire to celebrate this year’s festival in unity.

Mr Acquah explained that separate meetings were chaired by the Presiding Member of the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Rev. Eldad Bonney, with the Tufohen and the two Abaatan, Kweku Armah-Serkum of Tuafo No. 1 and Kweku Baiden of Dentsifo No. 2.

He said at the end of the meetings, they all declared their readiness to celebrate the festival in unity without any rancour.

Mr Acquah appealed to the media to deal directly with the committee and not individuals and groups who, in their desire to settle personal scores, would want to discredit the work of the committee.
