A FIRST-YEAR Furniture Making student of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI), Sadat Adam, made his family, school and Ghana proud after shining in this year’s World Wood Day Celebration in China.

Sadat, by dint of hard work, was able to finish among the world’s top six in the carpentry category in a competition which saw competitors from 20 countries across the globe including USA, England and Germany.

Sadat, who was the only African to finish among the world’s top six, was given a certificate to show for his extraordinary achievement which had lifted the image of Ghana and Africa at large, on the international stage.

A special ceremony was organized by the authorities of KTI in Kumasi to officially welcome Sadat back home, recently. The certificate he won in China was also presented to him during the ceremony.

Before a gathering of KTI students, a cheerful Sadat recounted how he worked hard to achieve the great feat in China, commending authorities at KTI for the role they played in ensuring his historic feat.

‘My advice to my fellow students is that whatever course you are studying here will be very useful to you in future if only you are serious because I never dreamt that studying Woodwork could take me to this level,’ Sadat said.

Dr. J. Abaiku Apprey, principal, KTI, said Sadat had made the school proud, indicating that the school would consider giving Sadat a scholarship to continue with his studies.

He said Sadat’s great achievement should serve as a motivation to other students of the school and the entire youth in Ghana to study harder in order to go places.

Mr. John Ankrah, vice principal, KTI, said Sadat’s extraordinary exploit in China should make students of the Woodwork Department of the school proud and motivate them to work hard.

He said 10 students of the Carpentry and Furniture departments of KTI were initially picked and five were dropped after an oral interview. The remaining five had a practical examination, after which Sadat was picked for the China competition.
