Ghana FA Executive Committee member George Afriyie feels ‘vindicated’ for campaigning to have Goran Stevanovic sacked from his job as Black Stars coach and replaced by Kwesi Appiah.

The Serbian trainer was given the boot after failing to lead the side to win the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The ex Partizan Belgrade boss was succeeded by his assistant Kwesi Appiah who has since made history to become the the first indigenous coach to qualify the Black Stars to the World Cup finals.

Calls are rife to hand the ex Ghana captain a contract extension ahead of June’s World Cup in Brazil with his existing deal with the Ghana FA grinding towards its expiration.

The Ghana FA however insist talks over a contract extension will only commence after Ghana’s third successive campaign at the World Cup.

Appiah has however received massive statements of support from top ranking Ghana FA officials including the association’s President Kwesi Nyantakyi – hinting at what appears to be an inevitable contract renewal for Appiah.

Ghana FA Ex.Co member George Afriyie now says he feels personally vindicated two years after joining a public campaign to have Goran Stevanovic sacked and replaced by Kwesi Appiah.

“When Stevanovic failed, I was making noise and people were insulting me,” he told Power FM.

“When I called for our own to be appointed, people didn’t understand me.

“When you go to a tournament and in one position you use four different players then there is a problem.

“I was clear that he [Stevanovic] was not the man for the job and that Kwesi Appiah be appointed.

“Two years on, some of us stand vindicated. The Executive Committee has been vindicated.”

Kwesi Appiah has had to make tough calls during his initial two year reign as coach of the Black Stars.

The appointment of striker Asamoah Gyan as substantive captain of the side and the surprise exclusion of Jordan and Andre Ayew for the 2013 Nations Cup were some of the critical decisions made by Appiah.
