Coalition of Farmers to picket at Kaneshi over GMOs

The Coalition of Farmer’s Rights and Advocacy against Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are set to picket at the Kaneshie Market in Accra to register their displeasure over what they say is a gradual introduction of GMOs into the country.

The group which is being supported by civil society groups say the exercise is aimed at mobilizing public support to reject Genetically Modified foods.

A member of the Coalition of Farmer’s Rights and Advocacy against GMOs, Duke Tagoe urged stakeholders must fight against the introduction of GMO’s to the country.

“ GMO’s has wreaked havoc in every part of the world. The world is detesting GMOs and we don’t see any reason why Ghana must go in for them. The Christian Council, the Catholic Bishop’s Conference, everybody is coming on board for its massive show of support and we must not leave this to a manipulation of any foreign interest. This has religious connotation, this has everything to do with the lives of our people and we have to prevent it from happening,” he said.
