Lawyer reprimanded for illegal judgment debt payment

The Sole Commissioner, Justice Yaw Appau has reprimanded a private legal practitioner, Seth Dumoga for illegally seeking judgment debt payments without authorization.

Seth Dumoga claimed he was given the power of Attorney, purportedly from one Emmanuel Ofori.

According to Seth Domega, he was commissioned by Emmanuel Ofori of the Bentiemena clan who is alleged to have been given the power of Attorney by Nana Sankrachie Atta, the head of the Bentiemena Clan of Buem Traditional Area in the Gyasikan district to pursue all claims for payment of compensation on acquired lands for Gyasikan Bungalos.

But Nana Sankrachie Atta who is the head of the Bentiemena clan of the Buem Traditional area in the Jasikan district of the Volta Region denied ever giving such authorization.

On Tuesday’s sitting, Seth Dumoga claimed that per his own interpretation of the purported power of attorney given him, he could go to court to pursue the said compensation.

But his assertion was quickly rebutted by the Sole Commissioner and his lead counsel, Dometi Kofi Sokpor.
