Stanbic Bank on Friday launched a Point of Sales (POS) merchant device at the Palace Shopping Mall in Accra to enable holders of its electronic cards to make payments for goods and services.

The device, which would be rolled out in a lot of shopping centres where Stanbic Bank has presence, is also aimed at enhancing the use of electronic cards for payment of goods and services.

According to the bank, the introduction of the devices would offer cutting-edge banking to clients and convenience since the bank would send daily statements to enhance reconciliation of accounts.

Nana Dwemoh Benneh, Head of Personal and Business Banking at Stanbic, in a remark, said the devices were not stationary.

He indicated that Stanbic Bank was the first entity in the financial services transaction sector to introduce the POS merchant acquiring device.

The bank also used the occasion to hold its first draw for the ‘Swipe to Brazil’ visa card promotion that is aimed at encouraging customers to use their cards to pay for goods and services at point of sales and in online transactions to qualify for a ticket to Brazil.

A customer, Steven Kwesi Anim, won the first ticket for a trip to watch Ghana’s World Cup game against Portugal in Brazil.

Mr Anim and his partner will be entitled to an international flight to Brazil and a domestic flight to match venue, a three-night stay at a four-star hotel, meet-and-greet service upon arrival at airport and two category 2 tickets to see a FIFA World Cup match, among other things.

The promotion, launched in February, 2014, ends on April 30, this year.

Between February 8 and April 10, 2014, Stanbic Bank recorded 7,404 card transactions worth GH¢2.9 million.
