Interior minister leads a team to assess East Mamprusi conflict situation

Interior minister Kwesi Ahwoi is leading a team of members of the northern regional Security Council, NADMO as well as the Inspector General of Police to the conflict areas in the east Mamprusi and Bunkprugu Yunyoo districts to assess the security situation of the area.

Early this month, violent clashes between the Mamprusi and the Konkomba ethnic groups on one side, and the Bimobas on the other, resulted in three fatalities with over a hundred residents rendered homeless.

Joy News’ Hashmin Mohammed reports that the visit of the team is in preparation towards lifting the dawn to dusk curfew imposed on Nankpanduri and surrounding communities in the wake of the violent clashes that has erupted in the area.

Meanwhile, Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng, who was on the grounds at Nankpanduri assessing the situation reported that the area was calm with no sign of any violence in the communities.

The communities looked empty during the curfew hours with only animals seen roaming around.

Residents of the community were only found outside by a whistle that informed them that the curfew times was over.

Security presence was also visible in the area with an accompanying peaceful atmosphere.
