Sir John, Agyepong Must Cease Fire – Group

Pro-opposition group, Patriot Youth Forum, says two of the New Patriotic Party’s General Secretary Aspirants must stop tearing each other’s campaign part ahead of the April 12 congress.

The group, in a statement said it has noticed that the incumbent, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and Kwabena Agyepong, have been hurling salvos at each other over the past few weeks.

PYF warns that such behaviour will be “gravely inimical to the post congress unity efforts of the party if not checked seriously and promptly.”

The group, made up of mostly tertiary wings of the party, said: “We have observed how key supporters, aides and the candidates themselves have released scathing attacks on each other recently.”

It added that: “The gravity of these attacks is that, they are done publicly on various media platforms which would obviously not augur well for the party’s unity efforts.”

According to the group, the two candidates can learn from fellow contender Yaw Buaben Asamoah’s clean campaign.

“We have equally taken notice of other arguments to the effect that, the two candidates are contenders for the General Secretary post and hence such ‘fallouts’ from their campaigns are normal. We however find this argument untenable because another key contender for the same position, Lawyer Yaw Buaben Asamoah has been able to conduct a campaign devoid of attacks and mudslinging.

The maturity with which Yaw Buaben Asamoa has approached his campaign and the consequent results it has yielded goes to confirm that there can be no justification for the path chosen by Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in their quest to outdo each other,” the group observed.
