General Secretary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoah, has denied endorsing incumbent General Secretary,  Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie.

In a press release issued on Saturday, Mr. Buaben dismissed suggestions that he was withdrawing from the race to support the incumbent, Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie.

A statement signed by his campaign team said, “We wish to assure our many supporters that Mr. Buaben Asamoa is very confident of winning the General Secretary position on April 12.”

The statement further described the rumour as “a bogus fabrication of facts, frivolous and mischievously crafted to mislead members of this great Party, who wish to see it return to power in 2016.”

Below is the Statement

The YB Campaign Team’s attention has been drawn to a concocted story making rounds on the Internet about unconfirmed reports speculating his withdrawal from the General Secretary race of the New Patriotic Party, and endorsing the incumbent, Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie.

We are not surprised that our opponents have turned their attention on Lawyer Buaben Asamoa, having realized his unwavering support amongst the delegates across the country. It is in light of the foregoing that we deem it necessary to vehemently deny the said story. It is a bogus fabrication of facts, frivolous and mischievously crafted to mislead members of this great Party, who wish to see it return to power in 2016.

We wish to assure our many supporters that Mr. Buaben Asamoa is very confident of winning the General Secretary position on April 12. He has toured the entire country and has won the hearts of many delegates with his message of unity. Mr. Buaben Asamoa is highly experienced in the unity campaign given that his 2010 campaign message focused on the unity of the Party.

Indeed, the delegates of this great Party are discerning and have had an opportunity to assess the manner in which all aspirants for the position of General Secretary have conducted their respective campaigns. In the last few days, delegates have expressed worry and concern about the very extreme positions taken by some aspirants, and the damning effects of their words and conduct on the Party’s electoral fortunes in 2016.

We also want to put on record that the reports about Dr. Amoako-Tuffour withdrawing his unconditional and absolute endorsement of Mr. Buaben Asamoa as the next General Secretary of this great Party is palpably false and without any iota of truth. The leading Party member assured Mr. Buaben Asamoa of his unflinching supports for his candidature all the way to April 12, and even thereafter when he become the General Secretary of this great Party.

We will therefore urge all delegates and Party members to disregard such stories from certain quarters, and treat them with the contempt they deserve. The dream of victory is very much alive and from our groundwork, Yaw Buaben Asamoa is assured a resounding victory with not less that 62% of the votes being declared in his favour.

We shall be united in this great Party and we shall protect the ballot, and ensure that our presidential candidate is declared President of the Republic of Ghana in December 2016.
