AKUFO-ADDO CONGRATULATES PRESIDENT MAHAMA ON BECOMING ECOWAS CHAIRMAN

I congratulate President John Mahama on his recent election as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

President Mahama follows in the tradition of Ghanaian Presidents who have been elected to head the regional body, following in the footsteps of President Jerry John Rawlings and President John Agyekum Kufuor.

As ECOWAS Chairman, President Mahama has the opportunity to hasten the process of West African integration. This will impact positively on the lives of the 340 million people who live in West Africa, as it will, amongst others, allow for the free movement of people, goods and services across borders, thereby assisting in the transformation of West Africa’s economies, creating jobs for its people, and providing decent lives for its populations. His tenure of office as ECOWAS Chair should be marked by concrete steps taken towards the integration of ECOWAS.

I wish him luck and Godspeed in this new office.

Nana Akufo-Addo
